About Ghana Prisons Service (GPS)
- The Ghana Prisons Service as an adjunct of the Criminal Justice System of Ghana contributes to the maintenance of internal security by maintaining of an efficient, humane and safe reformatory penal system operated within the laws of Ghana. We believe in humanity, vigilance, fortitude and integrity while helping in the reintegration of ex-convicts into society. The service comprises forty-five prison establishments located in all the ten regions of Ghana. At the apex is the Prisons Headquarters in the Greater Accra Region which also houses the Director-General of Prisons and his two Deputies, eight Directors of Prisons and other principal officeholders.

GHANA PRISONS SERVICE RECRUITMENT GENERAL ELIGIBILITY.
Applicant must:
▪Must be a Ghanaian citizen by birth with no criminal record.
▪Must possess a first Degree, not below a Second Class Lower from an accredited university, and the relevant professional qualification where it has been specified.
▪Must have completed his/her National Service.
▪Must be computer Literate.
▪Must be of a minimum age of 21 and not more than 35 years by 31st December 2020.
▪Must be physically and medically fit by the Prisons Service standards.
▪Must be of good character, have the ability to work under pressure and difficult environment
▪Must not be bonded.
▪Must have a minimum height of 1.67metres (5ft 6inches) for Males and 1.57 metres (5ft 2inches) for Female.
▪ Must have six credits. (Not less than C6) including Core English, Core Mathematics and Core Science at WASSCE/SSSCE.

Ghana Prisons Recruitment/Enlistment Requirements for General Duties
In addition to the general eligibility, applicants must have a minimum of first degree (Second Class Lower) in any of the following areas. Any additional qualification will be an added advantage.

(c) M.A. in Clinical Psychology

Ghana Prisons Recruitment/Enlistment Requirements for Technical Officer

(a) BSc Land Economy

In addition to the general eligibility, applicants must have
(a) BSc Business Administration (Accounting Option)
(b) Part 2 of ICA (Ghana)/ ACCA
Professional qualification will be an Added advantage.
Ghana Prisons Recruitment/Enlistment Requirements for Public Affairs
In addition to the general eligibility, applicants must have at least a Second Class lower:
(a) BA Communication Studies/ Public Relations from an accredited University.
(b) A first degree in any discipline and a Diploma in Communication Studies/ Public Relations from an accredited University.

Stages of Ghana Prison Service recruitment process
1. After online application, applicants who meet the initial requirements will be shortlisted and invited to centres of their choice for further processes.
2. At recruitment centres, there should be
a. Body examination and selection
b. Examination and inspection of academic and personal documents
3. Successful candidates in [2] above shall be made to write aptitude test
4. Candidates who pass the aptitude test will go through a thorough criminal and background check.
5. Then there shall be a medical examination for successful applicants.
6. The final stage of the processes is invitation to commence training.
