The GIS competition is a quiz or contest held in observance of and celebration of GIS (Geographic Information Systems) day.
Since its inception in 1999, the Geographic Information Systems (GIS) day has been observed annually on the 16th of November.
It is used to commemorate the debut of spatial analytics technology, which is used to capture, store, verify, and visualize data, as well as to create, manage, analyze, and map all forms of data.
Even though the award ceremony for the exam for 2021 was held last Thursday at the University of Ghana’s Department of Geography and Resource Development, it took place on November 17 as scheduled but through video.
22 schools participated, compared to the planned 33.
The major subject areas covered were human and physical geography, map interpretation, GIS applications, and general geography knowledge.
Presbyterian Boys Senior High School (PRESEC) won the championship, with Bawku and Kpando Senior High Schools finishing in second and third place, respectively.
